Who is Who at the Barcelona International College

When choosing an international school it is important to know that the professors are both well qualified and experienced. At Barcelona International College, all of our Spanish language teaching staff hold Masters degrees in Spanish Philology and are vastly experienced in the classroom.

Academic electives are taught by professors with higher degrees and Ph.D.'s and with the ongoing training that all of the teaching team receive, you can be assured that you will be receiving the best education available as our teaching staff strive to continually improve both in their individual fields of expertise as well as through their use of the best teaching methodologies.

The BIC Staff

All Spanish language professors at BIC possess M.A. degrees in Spanish Philology and vast experience in the classroom. The elective courses are all taught by professors with M.A. or Ph.Ds in their fields. BIC’s system of ongoing teacher-training ensures that the professors are continually improving not just in their fields of expertise but also in teaching methodology.

Rich Kurzman

Director

Hailing from Chicago, Rich Kurzman has been living in Barcelona since 2002. He has a wealth of international experience having worked professionally or as a volunteer in countries including Spain, Russia, Italy, the Philippines and Morocco. Rich understands all aspects of running a successful international school as he has worked in a variety of positions before becoming Director, from Study Abroad Site Director to Academic Dean and Student Advisor as well as Intercultural Competence Coordinator and Poressor of Language and Culture, Rich has the knowledge and understands what students expect and need when studying abroad.

Through his personal experiences in moving to Spain, Rich also provides training workshops for executives who are moving here and need assistance with their understanding of international business and culture from a Spanish point of view.

María José Gelabert

Academic Director

María José is a Philosophy and Spanish Philology Graduate with Masters from both the University of Alcalá and the University of Veracruzana. She has worked as a professor, teaching Spanish teachers in both Spanish and international universities and is highly credited in the Spanish education field.

Eduardo Balada

Activities and Office Manager

Eduardo is in charge of the day to day running of the office administration side of things at BIC. He also organizes the activities to ensure that students have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the spectactular city of Barcelona and get to take in the full flavor of typical Spanish culture.

Paula Cerdeira

Paula Cerdeira is originally from Galicia, in northwest Spain but has been living and working in Barcelona since 2003. Prof. Cerdeira spent 5 years in Germany while working on her doctorate and teaching Spanish as a foreign language in the Faculty of Philology of Paderborn University.

Currently she is the Spanish Language Coordinator of Barcelona International College. Prof. Cerdeira teaches Spanish language and culture, various specific courses in Business Spanish, and acts as an offi cial examiner for the DELE exams in Spain (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Langauge).

Professor Cerdeira is also co-author of teaching Methods of Spanish for young learners from the editorial EDINUMEN Publishing Collection: Club Prisma levels A1, A2, B1 and A2-B1 (student course and workbooks) and B1 teacher’s Manual, Collection of ¡Está Claro! 1, 2 and 3 (student’s book).
